Transportation Planning Unit

Qatar's Transportation Planning Unit (TPU) conducts Transportation Modeling for government agencies nationwide. Responsible for developing and maintaining the National Transportation Model, the TPU is at the forefront of modeling practice, with data interfaces linking GIS, the Transportation Model, and local area traffic simulations.

The TPU also carries out traffic and parking studies, assesses the impact of new development and regulations likely to impact the transportation system, and provides relevant transportation and landuse data to urban planners and other development professionals.

Another important aspect of the TPU's work is conducting research into methods for collecting, processing, and presenting data, and investigating new modeling techniques. It has greatly benefited from the high quality of data available on Qatar's national GIS project, and has developed several applications to make use of and enhance this data.
